 Understanding of mechanical machining processes and finishing jobs is essential for clear idea of manufacturing and operation of machine parts.

♣ Idea of fitting operations

   MATERIAL TESTING LABORATORY

 Idea of different mechanical properties of materials is useful for selection of materials in different engineering works

 ♣ Impact test on materials by OLSEN impact tester through CHARPY and IZOD method

♣ Torsion test on materials

♣ Tension test of materials by Universal Testing Machine

   ELECTRONICS LABORATORY

 Principles of digital electronics and analog electronics are the basic fundamental principles of advanced instruments and computing devices.

♣ Study of performance of elementary and complex combinational and sequential logical circuits, truth table verification

♣ Design and study of active electronics circuits using discrete components and ICs

   INSTRUMENT WORKSHOP

In hand operation of different electronic instruments and idea of basic practical electrical circuits enhances the skill for higher and complex measurements.

♣ Familiarization with constructional features of different indicating, recording and integrating electrical instruments

   PROCESS INSTRUMENTATION LABORATORY

 Process instrumentation is one of the prime activities in a manufacturing process. The decision for extent of control mechanism to be applied depends of the measured values of process parameters.

♣ Measurement of common process parameters like temperature, level, flow using different techniques

♣ Testing and calibration of different types of process transducers like level, flow, temperature, pressure, pH, conductivity, speed and displacement transducers.

♣ Study the static and dynamic characteristics of different transducers and instrumentation systems

♣ Study the characteristics of different control modes of a PID controller

♣ Testing and calibration of temperature control system, flow control system, level control system, pressure control system.

   MICROPROCESSOR AND EMBEDDED SYSTEMS LABORATORY

Embedded systems are getting importance for small scale automation, domestic appliances, and also in communication applications.

♣ Programming and interfacing Intel 8085 microprocessors with analog and digital systems

♣ PC-based simulation of programming of 8051 microcontroller and interfacing with real world devices

Newly developed Laboratories under TEQIP

Seven new laboratories have been developed under TEQIP. All these laboratories, apart from being exposed to academic curricula, have a great potential for man power training in different academic institutions, industries and research activities.  Some of the facilities are the only operating ones in an academic institutions in available in eastern India.

   DISTRIBUTED CONTROL SYSTEM LABORATORY

 DCS, or Distributed Control System is one of the latest plant automation strategies adopted by process industries to address complex control challenges.

   PROCESS SIMULATION LABORATORY

Process simulation software, used by most of the renowned process industries, provides a high-end simulation based training platform to conversant the process operators with the intricacies of complex processes and their control by Distributed Control Systems. Besides that, the simulation plays vital roles in design, pre-commissioning, and plant improvement stages.

● 210 MW Thermal Power Plant

   PROCESS CONTROL LABORATORY

Basic understanding of operation of process control loops is the foundation level for a technologist to succeed in process industry. It is treated as one of the core areas of Instrumentation Engineering.

   REAL TIME DIGITAL SIMULATION (RTDS) LABORATORY

Real Time Digital Simulation of power systems is one of the much discussed and challenging subject in present day power industries in India and abroad. It enables elaborated study in respect of performance of a complete power system before its actual installation, thus saving cost, man-hour and time. This is achieved by using software with special high speed processors in tandem with latest communication technologies. The installed system is the only operating one in an academic institution in whole India.

         

FACILITIES AND SCOPE OF TRAINING 

♣ Online simulation of the characteristics of the following power system components:

● Transformers with saturation and hysteresis

● Transmission systems

● Synchronous and asynchronous machines

● Instrument transformers, circuit breakers, relays, Static VAR compensators

♣ Simultaneous study of different models in interactive mode from 14 different operator stations with the RTDS panel using wireless LAN

   AUTOMATIC CONTROL LABORATORY

The MATLAB/ SIMULINK are now the industry standard benchmark for developing, testing control algorithms. Apart from curriculum, it has a good potential to exploit for research workers working in control areas.

   MACHINE FAULT SIMULATION LABORATORY

Machine condition monitoring so as to ascertain its healthy condition is one of the interest areas in modern research and technology.

♣ Study of resonance, variable speed, gearbox, and belt drive diagnostics.

♣ New Technologies can be developed for induction machines using MCSA and VSA techniques.

   ADVANCED INSTRUMENTATION AND COMMUNICATION LABORATORY

The basic aim of this laboratory is to facilitate the students, research workers with modern instruments and gadgets.

♣ Study of analog as well as digital communication techniques, their characteristics

● Arbitrary Function Generator

● 2 Channel, 60 MHz. Digital Storage Oscilloscope GPIB and RS232 interface

● Portable Energy and Power Disturbance Analyzer for DC, Single Phase or 3 Phase Balanced or Unbalanced System with frequency upto 400 Hz

● 4 + 16 Channel, 500 MHz. Mixed Signal Oscilloscope, 20 MHz. differential Probe, 100 KHz. Current probe AC / DC


   ENGINEERING SOFTWARE LABORATORY

Offline simulation techniques in gradually getting importance in engineering studies, as it enables the user to study, and analyse the system and even results without going into the actual hardware.
